New Year repositioning set to affect some mariners

Inmarsat’s satellite repositioning programme, to optimise its network and enable the delivery of global broadband services, enters its next phase in early January 2009.

Apart from a slight reduction in spot-beam coverage in the Atlantic Ocean Region West, the repositioning will not affect non-broadband maritime services.

But FleetBroadband and FleetPhone users should be aware that during repositioning - scheduled to take place in January and February 2009 - there will be two short outages:

Inmarsat-4 F2 outage: 7 January - 2 February 2009

  • FleetBroadband - in a narrow strip of the east Atlantic Ocean

Inmarsat-4 F1 outage: 6 - 24 February 2009

  • FleetBroadband and FleetPhone - in parts of Asia-Pacific
