Iridium 9575 Extreme FAQ Guide From GMPCS

GMPCS has received a lot of requests for information on the new Iridium Extreme.  Besides the satellite phone’s specifications we have been asked: “What comes in the box?” and “Is there any backwards compatibility with the phone's accessories?”  Below are the answers to these questions and more. 

 

What’s in the box?

Your Iridium Extreme package includes just about everything a satellite phone user needs:

•    - 2 accessory adapters
•    - Magnetic vehicle mount antenna with 5’ cable

Accessory backwards compatibility!

Iridium Extreme will remain compatible with the same Iridium 9555/Iridium 9505A chargers, auxiliary antenna, and USB data cable via two included adapters.  The batteries for these phones are not compatible.

 

When will the GPS tracking be available?

The Iridium Extreme is equipped with Location Based Services (LBS) and tracking via Iridium partner portals.  This service and pricing is currently unavailable and will become available later this month.

 

What are the 2 accessory adapters for the Iridium Extreme?

The accessory adapters allow use of the different accessories, they attach to the bottom of the handset.  One adaptor is used to charge the phone and the other connects the phone to other accessories such as the magnetic vehicle mount antenna.  The adapters are needed in order to maintain the Ingress Protection rating (IP65) for the phone.

 

What is the difference between the Iridium 9575 and the Extreme?

Nothing.  The model number for the Iridium Extreme is the Iridium 9575.  They are one and the same satellite phone by Iridium.

 

Has the dialing sequence changed?

No, the international dialing sequence to and from the Iridium Extreme is the same as the older model Iridium satellite phones.
